Cozy games for every mood
Something calm: Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, Unpacking, A Short Hike. With friends: Minecraft, Mario Kart, Overcooked, Among Us. Puzzles: Portal 2, Baba Is You, Tetris, Monument Valley. On the table: Uno, Ticket to Ride, Codenames, Dobble, chess. Check the age rating before you play (PEGI or ESRB), and ask before buying anything in a game. prrr… the best game is the one you play with someone you like.
Find a hobby
Try three for a week each and keep the one you look forward to. With your hands: drawing, baking, knitting, LEGO, origami, gardening. Moving around: skating, dancing, swimming, a team sport, long walks. For your brain: chess, puzzles, reading, a Rubik's cube, learning card tricks. Join a club or find people in the Grid who like the same thing. Hobbies are better shared. It's okay to quit a hobby that isn't fun. That's how you find the one that is. prrr.
Healthy gaming
Take a break every hour: stand up, stretch, drink water. 20-20-20 for your eyes: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet (6 m) away for 20 seconds. Decide when you'll stop before you start. Sleep beats "one more round". Be kind in chat. Mute, block and report anyone who isn't. Never share passwords or personal details, even with friendly players. Don't buy things in a game you don't understand. Ask an adult first if you're young. Feeling frustrated? Walk away for five minutes. The game will wait. prrr.
Books and films to curl up with
Books: - Warriors by Erin Hunter (clans of wild cats!) - Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland - Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan - The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien - Matilda by Roald Dahl Films: - Kiki's Delivery Service (with Jiji the cat) - My Neighbor Totoro - Paddington 2 - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse - Puss in Boots: The Last Wish Start a book club with friends in the Grid: one book, a few chapters a week, meet in someone's village.
The chill toolkit
Box breathing: breathe in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4. Repeat four times. A 10-minute walk outside. Bonus points for looking at clouds. Stretch like a cat: reach up, then touch your toes. Put on a favorite song and do nothing else for three minutes. Tidy one small thing. A clear desk feels lighter. Talk to a friend. Laughing counts as rest. Feeling bad for a long time? Talk to someone you trust: family, a friend, a teacher or a doctor. prrr… you matter.
